MEET THE TEAM

Mr Matla has 30 years’ China experience, including living in China full-time on-the-ground for 21 years, where he worked, and built and grew businesses.  He has a deep and sophisticated understanding, both commercially and culturally, of the greater China region, and is fluent in Chinese (Mandarin). 

 

In corporate advisory since 1998, he has advised over 200 international companies on how to enter and do business in China from various industry sectors.  Mr Matla is the founder of a number of companies doing business between both Australia and China, and travels to China on a regular basis.  Mr Matla was the Managing Director and CEO of GNS China, a boutique corporate advisory and investment banking firm based in Beijing [2004-2014].  He has held various roles with not-for-profit organisations, including 13 years as a Director (including terms as Deputy/Vice Chairman and Treasurer) of the China-Australia Chamber of Commerce (AustCham in Beijing); terms as Vice Chairman and Treasurer of the Global Mining Association of China in Beijing [2012-2014]; Founding Director of the China International Alternative Investment Association in Beijing [2009-2011]; and Executive Committee of the Australia China Business Council, Western Australia Branch [2015-2019]. 

 

Mr Matla has an MBA from Curtin University, a Diploma (International Company Director) from the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and is presently pursing his Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) with Curtin University.
